Laura Benson - Level 3 Stylist and Education Director
Laura Benson believes that success in the professional beauty industry is about focusing on expertise. Almost anyone can be good, but the truly successful professional is a beauty expert. That’s why Laura is completely committed to continuing her own professional development in every area including guest care, product launches and business development, facial structure, hair texture, color, style and fashion. And Laura knows that the person sharing the knowledge always learns the most; which is part of the reason her stylist career matches perfectly with her role as the Director of Education.As a young woman Laura discovered that she wanted to pursue a career that would allow her to be creative, to spend time with lots of people and work in fashion. This led her to enroll in beauty school where she met the owner of La Jolie, Sasha Rash. After working her way through one of La Jolie’s first apprentice training programs she quickly became a Level I stylist and a member of the Education Team, eventually growing into her current roles. All told Laura has worked with La Jolie for more than 10 years, periodically pursuing other interests in the industry such as editorial photo work, guest artist presentations and competitive photo submissions. But her full time professional home remains at La Jolie.
As a stylist and now education leader, Laura has attended dozens of courses offered by the world’s leading stylists, hair academies and communication experts including Paul Mitchell, Vidal Sassoon, Aveda, Goldwell, Teena Cahill, Estelle Best, Winn Claybaugh, Geno Stampora and Charles Marcus. She has also worked in television on Ambush Make-Over, auditioned for Shear Genius, entered the National American Hairstyling Awards, worked on numerous fashion shows and on dozens of editorial photo shoots.
She operates from the perspective that each individual is unique and that fashion is at it’s best when a person feels beautiful. This perspective was established early on because Laura was raised in a very diverse community with lots of compassion, love and people from every walk of life. And her ongoing international travel and exposure to different cultures reinforces the foundation of diversity established in her young life. Laura loves texture in hair, personality and life! In her pursuit of success, Laura’s first goal is to be an expert, able to service any guest she has the opportunity to work with.
The salon education program designed by Laura brings the power of professional development and technical practice together to enhance every salon professional’s career. She works with the entire team from interns to Guest Advisors to create annual education programs to create and sustain fantastic career paths and technical expertise.
The love of Laura’s life is her daughter, Gianna! John and Laura Benson have created a beautiful baby and the family loves spending time together doing kid friendly activities, shopping for clothes and taking lots and lots of pictures! Laura also enjoys cooking and learning about international cuisine. She is happiest when life is orderly chaos!
